Rasulullah Muhammad shollallahu ’alaih wa sallam mengkondisikan ummatnya untuk menghayati betapa hari Kiamat telah dekat. Sehingga dalam suatu khutbah beliau digambarkan ibarat seorang komandan perang yang memperingatkan pasukannya agar selalu dalam keadaan full alert alias waspada siaga satu. Pengkondisian ini membuahkan hasil nyata. Di antaranya pernah diriwayatkan ada seorang sahabat keluar rumahnya pada suatu hari lalu melihat ke arah ufuk dan mendapati di kejauhan terlihat ada asap. Beliau segera bergegas mengetuk rumah-rumah para sahabat lainnya seraya berteriak lantang:
الدخان الدخان
“Asap… Asap…!”
Sahabat tersebut rupanya teringat penjelasan Nabi shollallahu ’alaih wa sallam mengenai tanda-tanda besar menjelang datangnya kiamat dan salah satunya bilamana telah muncul asap. Subhaanallah..! Bayangkan, limabelas abad yang lalu para sahabat begitu kuat menghayati sudah dekatnya peristiwa kiamat. Bagaimana lagi sepatutnya kita yang hidup di zaman ini? Tidakkah kita selayaknya lebih serius menghayati sudah dekatnya kiamat? Bukankah tanda-tanda akhir zaman alias dekatnya kiamat sudah lebih banyak lagi yang kita saksikan muncul dewasa ini? Bukankah berputarnya waktu membuat jarak kita semakin dekat dengan peristiwa dahsyat kiamat?
Memang, para sahabat radhiyallahu ’anhum merupakan generasi teladan. Pantaslah bila Allah subhaanahu wa ta’aala mentaqdirkan mereka menjadi pendamping setia Rasulullah shollallahu ’alaih wa sallam sejak awal perjuangan beliau hingga hijrah dari Makkah ke Madinah. Mereka merupakan didikan Nabi shollallahu ’alaih wa sallam yang sungguh berada di baris terdepan dalam menjalankan pesan-pesan Nabi shollallahu ’alaih wa sallam. Di dalam mensikapi hari kiamat mereka benar-benar sempurna. Apabila mereka menghadiri majelis Nabi shollallahu ’alaih wa sallam kemudian dijelaskan mengenai kehidupan akhirat beserta gambaran surga dan neraka mereka segera menangis. Sehingga majelis mereka sering dijuluki sebagai:
مجلس البكاء
”Majelis tangisan”
Para sahabat radhiyallahu ’anhum sangat mudah tersentuh hati bila diingatkan mengenai kematian. Baik itu menyangkut kematian manusia yang disebut kiamat kecil maupun kematian alam fana dunia ini alias kiamat besar. Mereka sangat menghayati pesan Nabi shollallahu ’alaih wa sallam yang menganjurkan seorang muslim agar banyak mengingat kematian.
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
أَكْثِرُوا ذِكْرَ هَاذِمِ اللَّذَّاتِ يَعْنِي الْمَوْتَ
Dari sahabat Abu Hurairah radhiyallahu ’anhu ia berkata Rasulullah shollallahu ’alaih wa sallam bersabda: “Perbanyaklah mengingat saat dihancurkannya kelezatan (dunia), yakni kematian.” (HR Tirmidzi 8/279)
Kehidupan di dunia sedemikian tidak berartinya sehingga para sahabat radhiyallahu ’anhum mengembangkan ungkapan-ungkapan yang mencerminkan penghayatan mereka akan dzikrul-maut (banyak mengingat kematian). Di antaranya sahabat Ali bin Abi Thalib radhiyallahu ’anhu terkenal dengan ucapannya: ”Bila manusia meninggal dunia maka ia terbangun (dari tidurnya)”. Begitu pula sahabat Abu Bakar Ash-Shiddiq radhiyallahu ’anhu dengan ucapan beliau:
اجعل الدنيا في أيديكم ولا تجعل الدنيا في قلوبكم
“Jadikanlah dunia (sebatas) di dalam genggaman tanganmu dan jangan jadikan dunia di dalam hatimu.”
Semua ungkapan di atas tentunya mencerminkan kecerdasan hakiki yang dimiliki oleh generasi terbaik ummat ini yakni para sahabat radhiyallahu ’anhum. Mereka benar-benar ter-shibghah (kena celupan) sabda Nabi shollallahu ’alaih wa sallam:
الْكَيِّسُ مَنْ دَانَ نَفْسَهُ وَعَمِلَ لِمَا بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ
“Orang yang paling cerdas ialah barangsiapa yang menghitung-hitung/evaluasi/introspeksi (‘amal-perbuatan) dirinya dan ber’amal untuk kehidupan setelah kematian.” (HR At-Tirmidzi 8/499)
Banyak orang memiliki persepsi keliru mengenai kematian begitu pula mengenai kiamat. Mereka sangka bila seseorang sering mengingat kematian atau kiamat maka hal ini akan menjadikan dirinya kontra-produktif dan pasif tidak berbuat apapun kecuali duduk di masjid berdzikir menanti datangnya kematian atau kiamat. Padahal para sahabat radhiyallahu ’anhum merupakan orang-orang yang paling hebat dzikrul-mautnya serta paling hebat mempersiapkan diri menghadapi hari kiamat, namun mereka tidak tertandingi dalam hal beribadah, disiplin sholat berjamaah lima waktu di masjid, sholat malam, berdzikir, berinfaq, berbuat aneka kebaikan bahkan berjihad fi sabilillah.
Sementara kebanyakan manusia di zaman penuh fitnah ini sudahlah mereka sangat lemah dalam mengingat kematian serta mewaspadai tanda-tanda akhir zaman, kemudian tidak juga berarti mereka menjadi orang-orang yang rajin beribadah, melakukan berbagai jenis amal sholeh apalagi berfikir serta terlibat dalam aktifitas penuh resiko yakni al-jihad fi sabilillah, bahkan sekurangnya berinfaq untuk perjuangan para mujahidin.
Para sahabat tidak memiliki dikotomi apapun dalam berIslam. Ingatan mereka akan kiamat kecil tidak mengurangi ingatan mereka akan kiamat besar. Sebab masing-masing ingatan tersebut sama-sama membangkitkan semangat beramal, beribadah, berda’wah dan berjihad mereka. Begitu pulalah semestinya kita yang hidup di zaman paling kelam dalam sejarah Islam ini. Sudah selayaknya ingatan kita akan kematian (kiamat kecil) -yang bisa datang menjemput diri secara tiba-tiba- sama besarnya sebagai motivator kita beramal, beribadah, berda’wah dan berjihad sebagaimana kesadaran kita akan kiamat besar yang kian hari kian dekat kedatangannya.
اللهم إني أعوذبك بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ وَمِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ
وَمِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ
